Internet Archive: 5 Million Online Books Available to Borrow

In 2001, Dr. Raj Reddy was right: bringing books online is important, and it isn’t easy. From technical, policy, and resource perspectives, this talk will trace the evolution of the Internet Archive digitizing 5 million books and then offering them for free to anyone in the world to use. From building its own scanners to working with hundreds of libraries, museums and corporations to source and fund the project, the Internet Archive has taken Reddy’s Million Book Project as inspiration to continue bringing books online for a new generation of digital learners.
